Biomolecular Messaging
Pelagibacter ubique and other DNA-based Data Storage Systems
It is not by chance that the first message has been discovered coded in the genome of these organisms. The most common known organism on Earth is the bacterium Pelagibacter ubique, which subsists on dissolved nutrients in seawater and can grow at significant rates in unenriched seawater.
We've been obviously looking at the wrong places searching for extraterrestrial messages. It happens that the 'You are not alone' message was there, in front of us, encoded in the DNA sequence of the most common bacterium on Earth. The discovery was delayed by the fact we dismissed these organisms as they do not form biofilm or colonies, and therefore they have remained uncultured for a long time.

Using the DNA of the most common organism for data storage is a key strategy in any terraforming strategy. First, it is possible to store huge amount of data in very less size. Second, DNA can hold data for quite a long time if you use the ultraconservative segments of the DNA. Finally, by utilizing this strategy, data is packed and the security to the data is given.
